The University of Southern California’s Blockchain@USC is a student-run organization that cultivates, develops and promotes blockchain technology through education, research, content, and events. In collaboration with other prominent organizations, Blockchain@USC encourages Web3 learning and development through its initiatives while using its platform to connect enterprising community members with the budding blockchain industry.
In collaboration with the USC Marshall School of Business and VanEck Digital Assets Initiative, Blockchain@USC hosted the inaugural VanEck Southern California Blockchain Conference. This event would unite the blockchain community of Southern California for two days of presentations, panels, and workshops, with a goal of unifying developers, builders, investors, and students to discuss the current landscape of blockchain technology.
With only a 4 week runway, Blockchain@USC engaged with Happily for assistance in the production of their hybrid conference. The services that Blockchain@USC required from Happily included finalizing the agenda, broadcasting expertise, graphic assets, talent management, day-of coordination, stage design, floorplans, and more.
We faced a tough challenge of supporting blockchain developers and enthusiasts of all knowledge levels, but we were able to accomplish this through an abundance of programming and support networks.
From the Happily Experiential Team, a Producer was across all the agenda, schedules, meetings, rehearsals, and global coordination on the day. Two Stagehands oversaw the stage set up, and ensured that furniture was accordingly switched out between panels. A Backstage Manager and a Talent Wrangler coordinated the movement of speakers onto the mainstage, ensuring every speaker was prepared and informed.
From the Happily Broadcast Team, a Technical Director designed the workflow for the livestream, troubleshooting any technical issues during production. A Broadcast Director oversaw the final broadcast output, supervising the placement of cameras, lighting equipment, microphones, props, graphics, ensuring the overall experience of the livestream for the virtual audience.
A Director of Photography, along with a Lighting Designer, developed a visual style for the broadcast, designing the lighting and composition. Camera Operators and Audio Engineers ensured the audiovisuals of the conference were professionally and seamlessly captured.
A Broadcast Graphics Designer, created a range of branded graphics, such as brand wrappers, slides and overlays, used throughout the conference and broadcast. Video Playback Engineers were responsible for the graphics broadcasted and camera angle during the livestream for the virtual audience, as well as the music played onsite throughout the conference.
The Web3 space is still maturing, and events like this offer a captivating platform for global entrepreneurs and leaders to learn, improve, and connect. I am confident that more genuine efforts like this to further cooperation between industry professionals will results in developing real technologies that better the world.
With more than 1,200 participants and dozens of sponsors and partners, the two-day summit of the 2022 VanEck Southern California Blockchain Conference was a complete success.
This conference was able to facilitate the development of the blockchain industry, and strengthen Los Angeles as a global hub for Web3. Founders in infrastructure, DeFi, CeFi, NFTs, as well as crypto-native investors shared their work and experiences, to inspire audiences of talented students and developers. There were also exclusive insights into the next wave of Web3, and compelling discussion of emerging trends, and an exploration of cutting-edge research.
